For people with low income, resolving tax issues with the IRS can feel overwhelming and out of reach. Legal Aid’s Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC) helps clients navigate these challenges by offering free legal assistance in federal tax matters.
"Filing Offers in Compromise 101: From Theory to Practice" is a beginner-friendly training that will walk through the basics of the IRS Offer in Compromise process—a tool that can significantly reduce a client’s tax debt. This session will help advocates understand eligibility, filing requirements, common pitfalls, and will provide practical tips and resources to support clients. This training is ideal for attorneys new to tax law or those interested in learning how to assist clients facing tax debt.
Legal Aid needs more volunteers in this area, and your help can have a real impact. By taking on LITC pro bono cases and submitting your hours, you’re directly helping us secure critical funding through our LITC grants. Every hour you contribute not only supports a client in need but also helps sustain and grow our program, ensuring we can continue providing these vital services to the community.
