New Federal Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA)
This new law provides broader protections to pregnant employees as of June 27, 2023. Covered employees are entitled to reasonable accommodations for any “known limitations related to pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions.” The PWFA also extends beyond pregnancy to cover childbirth and “related medical conditions.” So, employers must still reasonably accommodate an employee who is recovering from childbirth. You can read more about the PWFA on the EEOC website and on the ACLU website. Look for more information on Legal Aid’s website coming soon.
Legal Aid is discussing wills, estate planning and advance directives with the LGBTQ+ community and helping prepare documents. Learn more during a two-part series offered by Legal Aid and The LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland. Get details: lasclev.org/2023estateplanningsessions/.

Invite Legal Aid to attend your Resource Fair
If you’re hosting a Resource Fair or outreach event to share information with people who have low income and may need legal assistance, please consider inviting Legal Aid to attend. Send an email to outreach@lasclev.org with details about your event (date, time, location, audience, etc.). We’ll do our best to attend, or we can send brochures and materials to distribute. Please provide as much advance notice as possible.
Thank you for your partnership in striving for justice throughout Northeast Ohio. As always, please reach out with any questions or ideas!
Sincerely,
