Learn about sealing a criminal record – September 19 at 5:00 PM
Who is eligible for record sealing (sometimes called “expungement”)? What criminal records can be sealed? How does a person apply to seal a record? Learn the answers to these questions during a special presentation offered by Legal Aid with the Elyria Public Library – September 19 at 5:00 PM. Brief Advice Clinics across Northeast Ohio! Legal Aid has a full schedule of in-person Brief Advice Clinics planned for late September and beyond, including a special Naturalization Clinic for individuals needing help with applying for U.S. citizenship.

Federal Student Loan Cancellation 101 – October 19 at 1:00 PM
In August President Biden and the Department of Education announced a new program to cancel some federal student debt. Many people have questions. Free Wealth-Building Symposium – Friday, September 16
The Cleveland Branch of the NAACP is hosting a FREE wealth building symposium at the Jerry Sue Thornton Building on September 16 from 9:00-1:00 PM. The event includes free parking, meals, and the opportunity to hear from local experts. Online registration is available.
Fair Housing for People with a Criminal Record: A Digital Toolkit
The Fair Housing Center recently released a new digital toolkit on Fair Housing for People with a Criminal Record. This toolkit was created to provide guidance for formerly incarcerated individuals and advocates for those impacted by the criminal legal system. The toolkit is available online.
Tracking ARPA Dollars in Ohio
Advocates for Ohio’s Future and the Ohio Poverty Law Center have created a tool to track how Ohio and its municipalities are spending American Rescue Plan Act dollars. Check out the Ohio ARPA tracker here.
Eviction Prevention Trainings
The Fair Housing Center for Rights and Research has a variety of virtual and in-person trainings scheduled this fall. A Legal Aid attorney will present during the sessions on Eviction Prevention & Diversion. Visit their website to learn more and register.
