Puerto Rico Extends Validity of Birth Certificates

Puerto Rican governor Luís Fortuño recently extended the validity of Puerto Rican birth certificates issued before July 1, 2010 through October 30, 2010. Previously, the birth certificates were set to expire September 30, 2010. In December 2009, Puerto Rico passed a law that required old birth certificates to
be invalidated in order to prevent identity theft.
