Fred Ball, long-time supporter of Legal Aid, passed away on February 21 at the age of 97.
A memorial service will be held for Mr. Ball on March 25 at 2:00 p.m. at Judson Manor (1890 E 107th St, Cleveland).
After law school at Columbia University, Fred practiced for 17 years at Johnson Savings & Loan, now FirstMerit Bank. As a young attorney elected treasurer of Cleveland's Legal Aid Society, he worked to transition Legal Aid to offices with paid staff including lawyers driven by a mission to serve.
As a Legal Aid Society board member and then president during the 1950s and 1960s, Fred Ball spearheaded the changes at Legal Aid that made the organization the high-impact nonprofit law firm it is today. He continued to support Legal Aid for his entire life.
