The coronavirus pandemic cast a spotlight on existing inequities and systemic barriers to opportunity in our society – then proceeded to exacerbate these issues.
In response, Legal Aid expanded programs and services; increased educational outreach; and intensified advocacy efforts to promote the health, safety, and stability of those in need throughout Northeast Ohio.
This spring, for example, we helped a mother of three access multiple months of rental assistance and avoid a devastating eviction. We helped a woman divorce her abusive partner via a virtual hearing, which led to her securing critical spousal and child support. We created a Worker Information Line to provide personalized guidance on work-related questions (such as how to access unemployment benefits).
This summer, when Right to Counsel Cleveland launches, Legal Aid will offer free representation to all eligible families with children facing eviction.
#ChangeIsHappening in Northeast Ohio because of Legal Aid – thanks to all of the individuals, organizations, and foundations that support Legal Aid’s important work.
