Legal Aid receives prestigious MLK Award

Elyria, OH --  The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland is this year's Elyria Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Social Justice Award recipient.

The award was presented today during the 26th Annual MLK Holiday Celebration.   The Elyria Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission awards are given annually to recognize service and achievement of persons who live or work in the City of Elyria in areas consistent with the teachings and example of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. His commitment to seeking racial, social and economic justice through non-violence benefited not only the victims of oppression, but society as a whole.

As part of the award ceremony, The Elyria Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Commission will present, "The Dream: Still fighting for Justice." The event will start with a commemorative walk from Ely Square to Elyria High School at 10:30 a.m.   Following the walk will be keynote speaker Rev. Marcettes L. Cunningham, senior pastor Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Elyria, at 11 a.m. in Elyria High School's Performing Arts Center, 601 Middle Ave.   Music will be performed by Lydia Lee Mosley.
