KeyBank and the KeyBank Foundation announced it has supported 12 nonprofits in 2023, including the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland, which has an office in Lorain County, with grants totaling more than $6 million to further their missions of improving Northeast Ohio, according to a news release.
The grant dollars will support workforce development, education, and diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, the release said.
“Some of the most important work we do happens outside our four walls, in our communities,” said Kelly Lamirand, president of KeyBank Cleveland Market, in the release. “We believe these investments will not only make our communities stronger, but more vibrant and stable.”
In 2022, the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland served 21,700 people through nearly 8,000 cases, and supported thousands more through its community legal education and outreach efforts, according to its website.
Legal Aid’s mission is to secure justice, equity and access to opportunity for and with people who have low incomes through legal representation and advocacy, the website said.
Founded in 1905, The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland is the fifth oldest legal aid organization in the United States.
It operates three offices and serve residents of Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake and Lorain counties.
The Lorain County office is located at 1530 W. River Road North, Suite 301 in Elyria.
The other organizations which received funds from the KeyBank Foundation include: Youth Opportunities Unlimited; TECH CORPS Ohio; Fund For Our Economic Future of Northeast Ohio; CHN Housing Partners; LISC Cleveland; Cleveland Institute of Music; Studio in a School Association; Friends of Breakthrough Schools; Say Yes Cleveland; Downtown Cleveland Alliance; and Cleveland Metroparks.
