This training will provide an overview of special education law and advocacy. This training targets attorneys with limited or no education advocacy experience. It will cover the basic outline of a parent's rights and a school's responsibility under special education law and practical tips on how to help parents navigate advocacy with their child's school. This presentation will prepare volunteer attorneys to engage in education advocacy on behalf of Legal Aid clients or students in their lives.
This 1.5-hour virtual CLE will cover the basics of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, IEPs, 504 plans, and dispute resolution options.
By engaging in education advocacy, volunteers can help parents and students have equitable access to learning that meets the child's unique needs and will foster a foundation for educational growth.
1.5 hours of general CLE credit available
