Matt Vincel, Esq., previously Supervising Attorney - Team Lead for Northeast Ohio housing work, was selected as the new Managing Attorney of Housing at Legal Aid. Matt succeeds Hazel Remesch who recently became the State and Local Policy Director for Enterprise Community Partners’ Ohio Market.
Matt started his career as a summer associate at Legal Aid many years ago, and then joined Legal Aid as a staff attorney 2008 - 2011. He worked as an attorney and supervising attorney with Georgia Legal Services and then a short time at the Cuyahoga County Public Defender's Office, returning to Legal Aid in 2019.
Matt will manage a practice group of 23 attorneys and 8 paralegals, all focused on work to secure stable and decent housing. The team works to increase availability and accessibility of affordable housing, improve housing stability, and improve housing conditions. They provide legal representation, pro se assistance and legal advice, along with community education and advocate for systemic change. The group also works closely with pro bono volunteers, providing mentorship and support for cases.
A graduate of Case Western Reserve University School of Law, Matt is a leader at Legal Aid in trial and appellate work, and serves as a mentor to other attorneys and paralegals. He was the recipient of the Claude E. Clarke Award in 2021.
