How Legal Aid Can Help Veterans and Others Who Served in the Military
Money:
- Were you denied a benefit or terminated from a benefit (VA, Food Stamps, SSI, Unemployment, or Cash Assistance)?
- Do you have an overpayment for a benefit (VA, Food Stamps, SSI, Unemployment, or Cash Assistance)?
- Are you being sued for a debt?
- Do you need help filing for bankruptcy?
- Do you have a problem with the IRS about your federal taxes?
- Do you have an issue with a loan (student, car, payday)?
Housing:
- Has a public housing authority terminated your housing or denied you housing?
- Is your landlord refusing to make repairs?
- Did your landlord turn off a utility or lock you out?
- Are you being evicted?
- Do you need help with a foreclosure?
Family:
- Are you afraid for your safety or your children’s safety?
- Do you want to file a civil protection order?
- Does your child have problems in school with learning or with behavior?
- Do you need help becoming a US citizen?
Health:
- Do you have an issue with VA medical benefits, Medicare, or Medicaid?
- Do you need help with a living will or a healthcare power of attorney?
- Are you struggling with nursing home or medical debt?
Work:
- Do you have a criminal record that prevents you from getting a job?
- Have you been discriminated against by your employer?
- Do you need your driver’s license reinstated to work?
- Did your employer not pay you wages you earned?
- Do you need help starting a small business?
If YES, contact The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland for help.
When you contact Legal Aid, remember:
- You will have to provide information to determine your eligibility for services;
- You will have to provide copies of any relevant papers;
- Legal Aid may send you papers to sign and return before they can help you; and
- Legal Aid will try to offer information and assistance whenever possible.
