The Housing Research and Advocacy Center recently honored The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland for its “tireless efforts to promote and ensure fair housing for all.” Legal Aid received the 2017 Friend of Fair Housing Award at the 12th Annual Fair Housing Celebration held April 19 at The Bop Stop.
Legal Aid and the Housing Center work collaboratively to help families gain access to housing or maintain their housing, to eliminate discriminatory barriers to housing and to promote successful reentry for formerly incarcerated persons, and to assist in individual client cases.
Together, the organizations partner to promote housing mobility and desegregation, and to increase accessible housing opportunities for low-income people. In their joint efforts to ensure housing choice, Legal Aid and the Housing Center engage in policy advocacy with area affordable housing and HUD-assisted housing providers.
Additionally, Legal Aid promotes fair housing by representing clients in court and in administrative hearings. They also provide advice and brief assistance in housing matters.
