Legal Aid, along with its community partners, has developed specialty projects focused on specific legal issues. Clients are pre-screened for eligibility. Legal Aid provides training opportunities including complimentary continuing legal education sessions.
Attorney-Client Match Program
You will have the opportunity to serve a wide variety of needs presented by low-income clients of Legal Aid. These cases generally require in-depth representation and cannot be resolved through a Brief Advice Clinic.
Bankruptcy By-Pass Program
You will assist elderly and disabled clients that have income and assets which are judgment-proof. You will provide assistance in communicating with creditors.
Pro Bono Bankruptcy Project
As an attorney specializing in bankruptcies, you advise and assist clients in filing for bankruptcy.
Civil Protection Order Project
You assist victims of domestic violence in obtaining civil protection orders against their abusers.
Community Advocacy Program Pro Bono Project
You assist Legal Aid and MetroHealth's Medical-Legal Partnership. The Community Advocacy Program is a leader in this innovative approach to removing legal barriers to health and to educating healthcare providers about patient's legal rights.
Disability Law Project
You represent disabled children and adults to obtain and maintain SSI disability benefits.
Elder Law
You participate in educational presentations on specific elder law issues and/or attend a Brief Advice & Referral Clinic to complete important documents such as advance directives.
Foreclosure ("Save the Dream") Project
You are involved in a statewide initiative to help clients facing foreclosure. You can elect either to assist homeowners whose cases have been accepted into mediation or you can assist with litigation.
Immigration Project
As an attorney specializing in immigration, you assist with adjustment of status clinics for refugees, with an annual Citizenship Day clinic and with individual pro bono cases. Further, you work with the C. Lyonel Jones Immigration Pro Bono Committee.
Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic
You advise and represent clients regarding federal income tax matters including, but not limited to, audits, examinations, levies against wages, innocent spouse relief, and Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) issues. Private Tenant-Landlord Project
You represent tenants in housing matters, including eviction, lockout and conditions cases.
Juvenile Court Custody Project
You represent families in court who are seeking to resolve custody and/or visitation issues related to minors.
License Reinstatement Project
You assist drivers in identifying and satisfying driver license reinstatement requirements.
Child Support Clinic
You help obligors prepare the necessary paperwork, including affidavits, so that they can file a motion to modify support.
