Important notice to HCVP (Section 8) tenants: Some local landlords participating in the Housing Choice Voucher Program (aka Section 8) have begun charging a monthly fee – in addition to the rent – to tenants who do not execute a new lease after the initial term.
The fees charged by landlords to allow tenants to rent month-to-month must be included as rent under the HCVP rules, according to the Sixth District Federal Court of Appeals in a decision reached earlier this year in a case handled by Legal Aid.
