The Collinwood Observer highlighted Legal Aid's recent clinic at the Cleveland Public Library's Memorial-Nottingham Branch. Reporter Jeanne Coppola covered the story:
On Saturday, November 14, 2015, The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland held a free legal clinic for the public, at the Memorial Nottingham Library, from 9:30-11:00am. Legal-Aid offeres their free legal clinics and services to low-income residents in counties throughout Northeast Ohio.
Participants at the legal clinic, had the chance to talk "one on one" with a volunteer pro bono attorney for legal advice and referrals on a variety of civil issues, including: consumer rights, health, fair housing, unemployment, and domestic violence.
Brochures on various subjects included: "Bullying in Ohio Schools," Be Smart about Managing Your Debt," "Paying Child Support," and "Bankruptcy for Low-Income Persons." They are available at the library's literature carousel.
"Legal Aid has a partnership with the Cleveland Public Library, to offer free legal clinics once a month (at various branches), on Saturday mornings," said Ann Porath, managing attorney of The Volunteer Lawyers Program at Legal Aid. "This is a starting place for advice, referrals, and help," she said. "It is a great community effort."
"Volunteers from Eaton Corporation’s law department and Squires Patton Boggs helped forty five people today," said Melanie Shakarian, Director of Development and Communications. Everyone who signed up or walked in, got the chance to speak with an attorney.
Legal Aid also offers many other free legal clinics, at various community centers and churches, throughout the year.
