Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority will open its lottery for the Housing Choice Voucher Program (formerly Section 8) from Monday, August 3 at 12:01 am through Friday, August 7, at 11:59 pm. The lottery will be open and available online 24 hours a day during that week.
Anyone who applies at any time during this period will have an equal chance of being selected in the lottery. The last time CMHA opened the lottery in 2011, over 67,000 people applied for the 10,000 slots. This year, CMHA anticipates the same or more applications will be submitted for another 10,000 places.
Applications for the lottery should be submitted online at http://www.applycuyahogacounty.tenmast.com/.
Older adults and people with disabilities can contact the CMHA call center for assistance completing an application at 1-800-223-4969. Computer access is available at all 27 Cleveland Public Library (CPL) branches and the Main Library, as well as at local social service agencies. There will be no paper or in-person applications accepted.
Applicants should print and save their CMHA lottery confirmation numbers. There will be no cost for printing CMHA lottery confirmation numbers at CPL locations. The list of winning confirmation numbers will be posted on the HCVP website and at locations where the lottery announcement appears. CMHA will also send letters to winning entrants advising them their names have been placed on the waiting list. Winning entrants must keep CMHA informed of current address and phone number in order to receive notice when their name is selected from the lottery.
