Legal Aid seeks volunteer attorneys to provide brief advice to low-income clients through community outreach clinics in Ashtabula, Cuyahoga and Lorain Counties. The volunteer attorney will engage clients during a short interview, collect intake information, provide brief advice and document services delivered. The volunteers will be supported by experienced Legal Aid attorneys who will help orient, train and troubleshoot for the volunteer during the clinics. The outreach clinics will be hosted by a community partner organization that provides office space as well as limited administrative support (access to computer, phone, copy machine, etc.).
Attorneys interested in this volunteer opportunity should have some experience practicing law in the county served, and be familiar with some of the following areas of law: landlord-tenant law, family law, debt collection, administrative law, and employment law. Volunteers will be asked to commit approximately 2-3 hours per month on a regularly scheduled weekday (TBD). An initial commitment of 3 months is requested.
Deadline to apply is July 30, 2015!
Legal Aid covers all expenses related to the legal services provided, including malpractice insurance. Additionally, Ohio now provides continuing legal education credits for attorneys who provide at least 6 volunteer hours per year.
