Enroll in health care coverage NOW to avoid penalties next year! Anyone who needs to purchase health care coverage through the Marketplace has until February 15 to do so, when the open enrollment period ends. Go to www.HealthCare.gov to enroll. If you need to buy Marketplace insurance outside of Open Enrollment, you must qualify for a Special Enrollment Period due to a qualifying life-changing event like marriage, birth or adoption of a child, or loss of other health coverage.
The Affordable Care Act created tax credits for people who purchase health care coverage through the Marketplace and tax penalties for others who are required to have health care coverage and do not. For more information about how the Affordable Care Act affects tax credits and penalties, go to http://lasclev.org/does-the-affordable-care-act-affect-my-taxes/.
Also, all low-income Ohioans should be enrolled in free or reduced cost health care. People between the ages of 19-64 whose income is below 138% of the federal poverty level should apply for Medicaid immediately and contact Legal Aid if denied coverage.
