United States Senator Rob Portman is the keynote speaker at Legal Aid's Annual Luncheon and Report to the Community on Tuesday, September 3 (11:45 am - Renaissance Hotel, 24 Public Square, Cleveland). Senator Portman is a long-time public servant and US Senator from Ohio.

The Senator will address the crowd of Legal Aid supporters and comment on the importance of Legal Aid's work to ensure shelter, safety and economic security for the most vulnerable in Northeast Ohio. Last year, Legal Aid helped more than 24,000 people through 10,000 legal cases. Through that work in the past year, Legal Aid saved its low-income clients more than $24 million in assets and reduced debt - a significant economic impact on the community. Legal Aid works to ensure clients are empowered and can work toward self-sufficiency.

Senator Portman will be welcomed by United States Senator Sherrod Brown (via video), and introduced by former Legal Aid board member - Congressman Louis Stokes.

900 people are expected to attend this annual event on September 3, including representatives from 56 local law firms, associations and businesses who sponsored tables.

Legal Aid is the law firm for low-income individuals and provides services in the areas of consumer rights, disability, domestic violence, education, employment, family law, health, housing, foreclosure, immigration, public benefits, utilities, and tax. Legal Aid's clients are low income people who are confronted with a legal problem that -- if left unresolved -- will result in loss of housing, education, income, food, safety or family stability. The problems they face are life problems that have a legal resolution. These clients have legal rights but without an attorney those rights will not be enforced. Legal Aid serves five counties in Northeast Ohio - Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake and Lorain.
