This “Updates from Legal Aid” email is the first one to come from me, Kimberly Barnett-Mills. I was recently promoted to the role of Managing Attorney for Community Engagement. I am eager to engage with you - our valued community partners - to expand Legal Aid’s outreach efforts, cultivate new relationships, and address systemic issues that affect our client community. Legal Aid in Lakewood - Know Your Rights Series
Join Legal Aid at Cove Community Center in Lakewood at 9:30 AM on the 4th Wednesday of each month through November 2024. We hope you’ll join us for the next event on Wednesday, August 28 to learn more about the law and your legal rights. Visit our website for details about these events!

At these clinics, staff and volunteers are available for in-person consultations to provide brief advice and counsel about civil legal issues. Jam for Justice 2024
Legal Aid's annual summer fundraiser – Jam for Justice – returns to The Beachland Ballroom & Tavern next week, on Wednesday, August 21. The event includes live music from bands made up of legal professionals who moonlight as musicians to raise money for Legal Aid. We welcome community partners and supporters to join us! Need a speaker?
Legal Aid provides Know Your Rights presentations to community groups on a variety of topics. If you’re interested in requesting a presentation, please email outreach@lasclev.org with the details of your request.

SNAP benefits replacement
After last week’s powerful storms, Legal Aid is helping spread the word about how to request replacement SNAP benefits for households that lost perishable food because of power outages. See information on our website: Storm clean-up resources & SNAP benefits replacement.
