The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland and the CWRU Students for Refugees are pleased to present an educational series about understanding common civil legal issues faced by refugees resettling in Ohio. This series is designed in partnership with members of the Refugee Services Collaborative and with leadership from CWRU Students for Refugees.
The series will consist of four sessions in early 2022. Each session will be virtual, and last about 1 hour. Interested participants are encouraged to register for the full series. Registration is available online.
Program Description:
Tuesday, January 18 at 2 PM – Immigration & Criminal Law: Speakers Julia Lauritzen of Legal Aid and David Magee of the Public Defender’s Office
Tuesday, February 15 at 2 PM — Custody Challenges for Parents/Guardians without Marriage Licenses: Speaker Haley Martinelli from Legal Aid
Tuesday, March 8 at 2 PM — Troubleshooting Benefits Issues for Changing Refugee Households: Speakers Deborah Dallmann and Corrylee Drozda from Legal Aid
Tuesday, March 22 at 2 PM — Wrap-Up/Q&A: Refugee Legal Issues in Housing, Kinship Care, Domestic Violence, & Employment: Facilitated by Catherine Donnelly; additional speakers TBD.
Participants are expected to review course materials before presentation.
