Beware of a recent utility scam!
Residents of Cuyahoga County have been receiving calls from people posing as electric company employees who threaten customers with immediate shut off if they do not pay the caller money.
People are scared into wiring money or making a phone payment without double checking. Remind clients and customers that any utility preparing to shut off service will first send a written notice.
Consumers who receive these or any scams should report them to Cuyahoga County Department of Consumer Affairs by calling 216-443-7035.
