Distance doesn’t stop Jason Dawicke from volunteering with Legal Aid. Jason, founder of Dawicke Law, LLC in Columbus, helps clients via the Legal Aid Virtual Advice Clinics. He first learned about the virtual clinic from another volunteer during the pandemic.

“I knew from my own practice that a lot of people needed help with unemployment benefits during an especially difficult time, so I wanted to assist those who were struggling,” said Jason.  “I decided to remain in the Virtual Advice Clinic post-COVID because I enjoy positively impacting others' lives at a rough time.”

Volunteering with Legal Aid helps Jason to carry out his belief in the maxim of helping those who can't help themselves and he strives to honor that commitment when possible.

“I love making a difference.  I enjoy providing clients with a roadmap to place themselves in the best possible position to succeed,” said the Capital University Law School graduate.

Lauren Gilbride, Managing Attorney of the Intake Group and the Volunteer Lawyers Program, was grateful that Jason was able to jump on board, helping to organize a group of employment attorneys to assist during the pandemic.

“I love highlighting how technology and innovation has really helped us expand the pool of volunteers that we have,” said Lauren. “This has been so beneficial to us. For almost five years Jason has provided services to our clients and helped to train our volunteers on employment law, including unemployment compensation.”

Jason strongly encourages others to get involved and volunteer with Legal Aid.

“There are a lot of people that need assistance that don't have the resources to obtain it.  As much as your help will mean to those you're assisting, it will mean equally as much to you.  Making money is important in your daily practice and for your firm, but making a positive impact in others' lives for no charge is important for building your character.”
