Know Your Rights: Student Loan Repayment Resumes

The U.S. Department of Education has announced that student loan payments will restart this fall after being paused for the last three years as part of the COVID-19 pandemic-era relief.

This presentation by Legal Aid will provide borrowers with the tools they need to navigate the return to repayment, including:

• an introduction to the basics of student loans;
• a look at the new income-driven repayment program that will benefit most borrowers;
• an overview of loan discharge and forgiveness programs;
• a review of time-limited programs for borrowers in default and those who have been in repayment for decades;
• and an update on the status of the government’s one-time cancellation program.

Legal Aid will also share information about where borrowers can find additional help if needed following the event. Presented in partnership with the Elyria Public Library System.
