Barbara Barreno-Paschall, Senior Attorney in Legal Aid’s Economic Justice Practice Group, has been selected as a Cleveland Council on World Affairs’ (CCWA) 2024-2025 Richard W. Pogue Fellow. The CCWA’s mission is to “inspire engagement in international affairs and world cultures through education, citizen diplomacy and public dialogue”. They also promote economic development and international trade.
As a Pogue Fellow, Barbara will have the opportunity to engage in discussions regarding foreign policy and network with others in the business and civic communities.
Barbara has been with Legal Aid since April. Barbara previously served as Vice Chair and Commissioner of the State of Illinois Human Rights Commission in 2019 and was reappointed in 2023. Barbara also was an Associate at Sidley Austin LLP and a Senior Staff Attorney at Chicago Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights.
Barbara serves as Vice President of the Harvard Alumni for Global Women's Empowerment and as an Elected Director of the Harvard Alumni Association. She also serves as a Term Member of the Council on Foreign Relations and is a recipient of the 2023 German Marshall Fund Fellowship.
Barbara earned her J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School. She earned her bachelor's degree from Harvard College and her Master of Public Policy degree from The University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy.
The Pogue fellowship is named in honor of attorney Richard Pogue, a Senior Advisor at Jones Days. Richard has been a member of the CCWA for over 60 years. Funding for the fellowship is provided by the Kulas Foundation. Learn more about the CCWA: www.ccwa.org/.
