Community Foundation of Lorain County Board of Directors announced $1 million in grant awards to 39 organizations at its regular meeting July 17, 2019.
Community Foundation, which supports nonprofit organizations serving Lorain County residents, has invested over $100 million in the community since 1980, according to a news release.
Maria Grega, Grants Committee chairperson stated, “Our Community Foundation mission is to connect people who care with causes that matter; the Grants Committee’s work is the culmination of that mission in our local community.”
July grants include:
Arts and culture $95,115
• Cleveland Museum of Natural History, $15,115 for enhancing science education in Lorain County
• Great Lakes Theater Festival, $35,000 for education programs for Lorain County students
• Lorain Historical Society, $10,000 Capacity Building Grant
• MAD Factory, $5,000 for theater arts-based programming
• Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra, $25,000 for 2019-2020 NOYO Season
• North Pointe Ballet, $5,000 for sensory-friendly performances 2019-2020
Education and youth development $124,584
• Achievement Centers for Children, $7,500 for camps for children and adults with disabilities
• Atmosphere Adventures, $15,000 for Atmosphere Adventures Science Enrichment Project
• Boys and Girls Clubs of Lorain County, $30,000 for School Year Teen Out-of-School Time Enrichment
• College Now Greater Cleveland, $18,207 for College Access Advising for Lorain County
• Diversity Center of Northeast Ohio, $5,000 for Building Youth Leadership by Cultural Exchanges
• Educational Service Center of Lorain County, $2,084 for Spelling Bee programs 2019-2020
• Junior Achievement of Greater Cleveland, $15,000 for JA programs for Lorain County students

• American Red Cross, Lake Erie/Heartland Chapter, $10,000 request for Biomedical Fleet
• Catholic Charities Corporation, $70,000 for Catholic Charities St. Elizabeth Center
• Cleveland Clinic Research Institute, $50,000 for medication assistance for Alzheimer's patients
• Cleveland Clinic Research Institute, $50,000 for medication assistance for oncology patients
• Cleveland Hearing & Speech Center, $30,000 for 2019 Deaf Serving Deaf in Lorain County
• Family Planning Services of Lorain County, $40,000 for operating support
• Gathering Hope House, $5,000 for art recovery therapy
• Hospice of the Western Reserve, $15,000 for reframing the lens on Dementia at the End of Life
• Let's Get Real Inc., $25,000 for intake and outreach for persons moving to recovery
• Lorain County Board of Mental Health, $4,484 for vicarious trauma training for first responders
• Lorain County Children Services, $8,130 for adoption finalization package
• Lorain County Free Clinic Inc., $60,000 for general operating support and prescriptions
