"Jam for Justice" takes the stage July 11 at the House of Blues to benefit Cleveland Legal Aid Society
CLEVELAND -- "In the Heights, you can have a real job and still rock the House of Blues."
The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland will bring a strong case to that downtown venue July 11 when four rock bands -- all fronted by area attorneys and judges -- will perform at a fundraiser there from 5 to 8 p.m.
The concert lineup includes Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Michael Donnelly of Cleveland Heights, playing with his band Faith & Whiskey, as well as local attorney and Shaker Heights native Jonathan Leiken, with his band Rule 11 & the Sanctions.
Along with the bands Just Us and the John Hanley Band, the benefit will feature an all-star jam to close the show, celebrating not only the 50th anniversary of The Rolling Stones but also a landmark court case, known as Gideon vs. Wainwright.
For the last 50 years, the Gideon decision has guaranteed access to an attorney in criminal cases.
"But there is no 'civil Gideon,' or right to counsel in cases where life, liberty and property are at stake," noted Ellen Brown with the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland.
"And that's the mission of Legal Aid -- to secure justice for low-income clients," Brown added.
Tickets for this popular annual summer event, held at the House of Blues, 308 Euclid Ave., are $40, including food, drinks and music.
