Cleveland.com, the online home of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, reports: Low-income residents can get free legal advice on civil matters between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, another of the Legal Aid Society's community outreach sessions.
The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland offers assistance with housing, consumer rights, domestic relations, health, special education, employment and tax problems at the Fatima Family Center, on Lexington Avenue at East 66th Street. Bring paperwork with you.
A decade ago, 13 percent of Cuyahoga County residents were poor, compared with 19 percent today, Legal Aid spokeswoman Melanie Shakarian said.
The nonprofit group of lawyers handled 14,000 cases in 2008. Last year, that rose to 18,000.
"This year, we are on pace for more," Shakarian said.
