New federal guidance prohibiting housing discrimination against individuals with criminal records

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has issued guidance on the Fair Housing Act (FHA), articulating a stance that addresses housing discrimination against people with criminal records.  Under the new guidance, those denying housing to individuals with criminal histories must provide substantial, legitimate, nondiscriminatory justification or otherwise be in violation of the FHA.
