The City of Cleveland recently recognized Delores Gray, a Community Board Member for The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland, as one of Cleveland’s Seniors of the Year for 2019. In honor of National Older Americans Month, Cleveland recognized the contributions of its elder community with Senior Day, an event hosted by Cleveland’s Department of Aging on May 21st. The lively celebration includes an information fair, lunch, live music, and remarks from Mayor Frank G. Jackson.

City Council representatives from each ward chose one senior from their constituency who best embodied 2019’s theme, “Connect, Create, Contribute.” Phyllis Cleveland, City Council Representative for Cleveland’s 5th Ward, chose Delores Gray. In addition to her work as Community Board Member for Legal Aid, Delores also serves on the board of Burten, Bell, Carr Community Development Corporation and Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority’s Board of Commissioners. She also works with the Local Advisory Council, Progressive Action Council, and the Care Alliance. A resident of Cleveland since 1966, Delores has deep connections in the community and advocates by “listening to the people, hearing them, caring about them and bring them the information that they need; or telling them where to go to get support and help.”
