Legal Aid's executive director - Colleen M. Cotter, Esq. - will be the featured guest on "Its About Justice," a program on WRUW radio 91.1 FM.  The interview will air on Saturday, May 9 from 1:30 - 2:30 pm.

Ms. Cotter will discuss how Legal Aid helps more than 20,000 people in Northeast Ohio each year.

Cleveland Legal Aid helps the low-income community, primarily those below 200% of the Federal Poverty guidelines. In Northeast Ohio, approximately 622,000 people (32% of the population) are eligible for Legal Aid’s services. Most of Legal Aid’s clients – 69% - are women, and most of those women are the head of their household with children. Legal Aid’s clients are low-income people who are confronted with a legal problem that – if left unresolved – will result in loss of housing, education, income, food, safety or family stability. The problems they face are life problems that have a legal resolution. These clients have legal rights, but, without an attorney, those rights will not be enforced. Legal Aid uses the power of the law to help those who are poor and vulnerable.

Founded in 1905, Cleveland’s Legal Aid is the fifth oldest Legal Aid in the country and one of 134 independent Legal Aid organizations serving every county in the United States. In Northeast Ohio, Legal Aid serves five counties: Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake and Lorain. Cleveland Legal Aid employs 41 staff attorneys, 26 other staff, and engages 2,616 volunteer lawyers.
