Katherine Hollingsworth, Managing Attorney of Legal Aid's Economic Justice group, was selected as an inaugural member of The Ohio Workforce Coalition's Cleveland|Cuyahoga Workforce Leadership Academy, a fellowship designed to build capacity in the local workforce ecosystem and present innovative solutions to challenges faced by workers or businesses.
The Economic Justice team which Katherine leads at Legal Aid handles complex legal issues related to consumer rights, taxes, unemployment compensation, employment issues (e.g. wage theft and discrimination), and barriers to employment (e.g. criminal records). In addition to supervising the representation of clients with employment and consumer issues, she also leads the group's systemic advocacy efforts to secure greater economic stability and access to justice for Legal Aid’s client community.
Katherine has dedicated her Legal Aid work to improving opportunity and equity for people with low income. She is a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center. Prior to joining Legal Aid in 2011, Katherine practiced at two large national law firms in Boston, Massachusetts and served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable F. Dennis Saylor IV in the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts.
The yearlong Academy was developed by the Aspen Institute Economic Opportunities Program and launched in Ohio by the OWC in partnership with the Northeast Ohio Workforce Coalition (NEOWC). The Academy engages leaders in retreats and workshops as they come together to advance innovation and equity.
