Barbara Barreno-Paschall, previously a Senior Attorney in Legal Aid’s Economic Justice Practice Group, was recently promoted to the role of Managing Attorney. Barbara joined Legal Aid in April of 2024 after relocating from Chicago.
In her new role, Barbara will oversee the team working to remove barriers relating to money in the areas of employment, consumer, tax, bankruptcy, and estate planning, and advocating for systemic change that will result in greater economic stability for Legal Aid’s client community.
Previously, Barbara served as Vice Chair and Commissioner of the State of Illinois Human Rights Commission, appointed by Illinois Governor JB Pritzker in 2019 and reappointed in 2023. Barbara also was an Associate at Sidley Austin LLP and a Senior Staff Attorney at Chicago Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights.
Barbara currently serves as President of the Harvard Alumni for Global Women's Empowerment, an Elected Director of the Harvard Alumni Association, and a Board Trustee of the Harvard Club of Northeast Ohio. She is also a Term Member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a Cleveland Council on World Affairs 2024-2025 Richard W. Pogue Fellow, and a 2023 Marshall Memorial Fellow with the German Marshall Fund of the United States.
Barbara received her J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School, her bachelor's degree from Harvard College, and her Master of Public Policy degree from The University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy.
