We provided this update to community partners and public officials this week with updates on events and other newsworthy items. 

If you are on-staff at a local organization or with a government agency, email us with a request to join the mailing list.  Include your name, title, organization and email in the note. You will begin receiving Legal Aid's bi-weekly updates upon receipt.

Survey results will be used to better understand the most pressing problems facing people in Northeast Ohio. All responses will be kept anonymous. This survey is open until March 15, 2021.  Please share widely!

Tenant Information Event

Housing Law Training

Do your clients have questions about housing issues? Legal Aid will be hosting a virtual partner training through Zoom on Housing Law. Join Legal Aid attorneys for a conversation on the eviction process, fair housing laws, Cleveland’s Right to Counsel, and more. 2.75 continuing education credits are available per the Ohio’s Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board. 93% of evictions prevented in first 6 months of Cleveland’s Right to Counsel program
Legal Aid is proud to share thar our attorneys helped clients avoid displacement in 93% of the cases we handled through Cleveland’s new Right to Counsel program. Learn more about the first 6 months of Right to Counsel in this report, presented by United Way and Legal Aid to the City of Cleveland.

Rent, Water, and Mortgage Assistance available for Lorain County
The Lorain County Community Action Agency is administering cash assistance to eligible residents. The next day to apply for rental assistance is February 16th; 75 applications will be accepted before the application closes. The mortgage assistance program also begins on February 16th and 8:00 am. Applications for water assistance are available now. Please share these links with your networks!

Mortgage Assistance Available in Cuyahoga County
The Cuyahoga County Mortgage Assistance Program (MAP) is providing one-time mortgage assistance to Cuyahoga County homeowners who meet income eligibility guidelines and are having difficulty paying their mortgages because of the financial impact of Covid-19. Click here for more information.

New Cuyahoga County Consumer Debt Defense Program
Free legal help is now available for those struggling with debt. The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland is joining with the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court to lead a Consumer Debt Defense program. Reminder: CDC Eviction Moratorium extended until at least 3/31
The Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) eviction moratorium will be extended until at least March 31. Visit lasclev.org/cdc-eviction-moratorium for up-to-date information. It is important to note that this is a moratorium on evictions, not rent payments. Anyone struggling with rental housing issues should call Legal Aid.

Updated flyers and info cards
We’ve updated our FREE COVID flyers and info cards!
For organizations serving Cleveland residents, we have info cards on Right to Counsel in Cleveland Housing Court available in English and Spanish. If you would like any of our materials for distribution, please reply to this email with details including the requested resource, a contact name, and a mailing address. We are happy to share these free resources!
