Prepare now for changes to Medicaid and the end of “spend-down” later this year.

The Ohio Department of Medicaid (ODM) is preparing to change the program’s disability determination process.  Later this year, the program will implement a unified disability determination process so that people who qualify for Supplement Security Income (SSI) will automatically qualify for Medicaid.

As part of this change, the current practice of allowing individuals with income above eligibility thresholds to use medical bills to “spend down” to achieve Medicaid eligibility will no longer exist.
