Legal Aid attorney Karla Perry was featured in The Plain Dealer's Forum Section today.   She authored a letter to the editor that highlights the positives of Medicaid:

An important element to the strength of the United States is the health of its citizens. Medicaid is America's major public health coverage program for low-income Americans. In recent weeks, there have been many news stories about Medicaid -- but many people do not realize some basic facts about Medicaid and how the system ensures a strong nation.

According to a recent study by the Kaiser Family Foundation, Medicaid finances health and long-term care services for more than 55 million people, including children, people with disabilities and the elderly.

Medicaid has improved access to health care for low-income people since its inception in 1965, has helped institute many health care innovations and is an important economic driver for the health care industry.
