CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Joint Veterans Commission of Cuyahoga County (JVCOCC) will honor Cleveland attorney and Vietnam veteran Joseph P. Meissner as its 2013 Outstanding Veteran of the Year during the group's 89th anniversary dinner on Feb. 17.
The JVCOCC represents 19 area veterans groups and the event will also feature installation of its 2014 officers.
Meissner, a retired Army lieutenant colonel, served with the 5th Special Forces Group in Vietnam and later became active in establishment of the Vietnamese community in Cleveland and has made several return trips to Vietnam.
The JVCOCC is also recognizing Meissner's role as an attorney for the Legal Aid Society in Cleveland.
Officers to be installed include Ron Schwachenwald, president; Darrell Hudson, first vice president; Gary Rezabek, secretary/treasurer; and Charles H. Kiessling Sr. and Joseph I. Mendise as chaplains.
The anniversary dinner will be held at 6 p.m. at Embassy Suites Cleveland-Independence, 5800 Rockside Woods Boulevard, in Independence. Dinner tickets are $30 if reserved by Jan. 21, or $35 after that date.
