People involved with the justice system have significant health needs that are often unmet in the community. By improving the relationship between health and justice systems, community health systems can drive changes that improve equity in these systems.

This session will look at the relationship between community health systems and justice systems, and will identify opportunities for these systems to work together to improve individual and community health, including:

  • an introduction to the Sequential Intercept Model (SIM);
  • insights into how health and justice systems could work together to divert people away from the justice systems;
  • and an overview of major recent changes to Medicaid that create new opportunities for advocacy to improve health outcomes for justice-involved populations.
