Our constitution guarantees a criminal defendant an attorney, because that person is at risk of losing their liberty. Our constitution does not guarantee an attorney to anyone in a civil situation, but people whose homes are being threatened, whose children’s education is being threatened, they need access to justice. Without Legal Aid they would not have access to justice.
