Have you, or has someone you care about, been incarcerated or otherwise involved in the criminal justice system? Other legal problems sometimes develop as a result of justice system involvement, such as issues with housing, employment and benefits. Even though Legal Aid does not handle criminal cases, we can help with many “collateral consequences,” or related issues. Some examples of situations where Legal Aid may be helpful include:
- Sealing a criminal record
- Modifying child custody or child support
- Navigating public benefits, such as Social Security or Medicare
