Need help with a case?

Legal Aid represents eligible individuals, families, and groups in a variety of civil legal matters. To apply for help with a case, call or walk in to a Legal Aid office.

  • Phone Intake: 1.888.817.3777  Monday, Wednesday, & Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and Tuesday & Thursday from 9:00 a.m – 2:00 p.m.
  • Walk-in Intake: Any Legal Aid office Tuesday & Thursday from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Requests to Legal Aid for help far exceed Legal Aid’s available resources, so not all applicants’ can be represented, and may be referred for other services.

Have a legal question or need brief advice?

Legal Aid offers Brief Advice Clinics on a first come, first served basis for free to eligible clients at numerous locations throughout the counties we serve. Staff and volunteer attorneys meet one on one with clients who have a question, need help with a form, or want to know their rights in a particular situation. Attorneys will help as much as possible the day of the clinic with any civil (not criminal) legal problem. In most cases, attorneys do not provide additional assistance after the clinic. Clients are invited to attend future clinics for further help with the same or new problems.

Information and Resources

Sometimes people handle problems related health, housing, family, employment or money on their own or with help from someone who is not a lawyer. Legal Information on specific topics to help people know their rights and navigate the legal system is available in Brochures, Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), and Self-help documents.

Requests for brochures can be submitted on our brochure request form.

Tenants can also call the Tenant Information Line at 216.861.5955 (Cuyahoga County) or 440.210.4533 (Ashtabula, Lake, Geauga and Lorain Counties).

Tenants with questions about housing rights and remedies should leave a short message with name, phone number and question. A housing specialist will call back within 1 business day.

Community Engagement

Legal Aid works with the community to create access to justice for people who have low income. Staff and volunteers will attend community meetings, give Know Your Rights presentations to groups, and train service providers on civil legal issues, and more.

Requests and questions about community engagement should be sent to outreach@lasclev.org. Please include name and phone number, along with any of the following information, if known: brief description of request, who is the audience, estimated number of people, and date and location for event.
