Medical Legal Partnerships

Health care providers know that the care and treatment provided by doctor’s and nurses accounts for only 20% of a person’s overall health.  Social determinants of health are the greatest factor in determining how healthy a person is at 60%.  Legal Aid established Medical Legal Partnerships with three of the area’s health systems to address problems such as housing conditions, educational barriers, lack of nutritional food, and other poverty-related problems that impact a person’s health and well-being.

The Community Advocacy Program is a medical legal partnership at MetroHealth which provides access to attorney services in 5 locations:  Main Campus Pediatrics, Older Adults, McCafferty, Buckeye and Broadway Health Centers.  Any MetroHealth patient in one of these sites can ask their provider for a referral to Legal Aid.

The Medical Legal Partnership at University Hospitals Center for Women and Children provides legal services to patients at the new hospital on Euclid at E. 55th Street in Cleveland.  Patients are referred to Legal Aid via their health care provider.

The Medical Legal Partnership at St. Vincent Charity Medical Center provides legal services to patients in the hospital, receiving out-patient treatment, and those staying at Joseph’s Home.  Patients are referred to Legal Aid via their health care provider.
