Ohio legal-aid group receives $12.9 million in mortgage settlement money

The Ohio Legal Assistance Foundation will receive $12.9 million from a settlement struck between Bank of America and the U.S. Department of Justice and six states over mortgage-related activities by the bank and its subsidiaries.

The foundation provides support for legal aid organizations throughout Ohio.The money will be used to provide legal assistance in foreclosure prevention and community redevelopment.

The foundation is one of 56 state-based legal-assistance organizations receiving funds from the settlement. So far, $490 million has been distributed nationwide.
