Participants will learn from Legal Aid’s expert employment attorneys about:

  • about the process to seal a criminal record and/or secure a Certificate of Qualification for Employment (CQE); and how non attorney providers can help support clients interested in applying for record sealing/CQE;
  • basics of federal/state employment discrimination laws and the complaint process in the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and Ohio Civil Rights Commission (OCRC); how to support clients who have experienced employment discrimination who want to pursue taking action against an employer; and
  • basics of federal tax law controversies involving low-income taxpayers; the role of Cleveland Legal Aid’s Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC); and, 3) ways to support clients who encounter a conflict with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Continuing education credits are pending - details will soon be available per the Ohio’s Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board.
