Legal Aid Board of Directors Meeting

Legal Aid’s Board of Directors meets quarterly.  The Board of Directors is responsible for defining the organization’s mission and for providing overall leadership and strategic direction to the organization.  Per regulations of the Legal Services Corporation, all board meetings are public.

Citizenship Day Immigration Clinic

A specialty clinic providing individuals with help on citizenship and adjustment of status paperwork.  Help will be available to those seeking information and assistance with citizenship applications.

This event is hosted with the American Immigration Lawyers Association Northeast Ohio Chapter.

No appointment is necessary. Please note these factors to consider for the Naturalization process:

  • Be at least 18 years old by the date of filing
  • Have been a lawful permanent resident for at least the last five years (or three years, if married to a U.S. citizen)
  • Have been present in the U.S. for 2-1/2 of the past five years(or 1-1/2 of the past three, if married to a U.S. citizen), and have not been outside the U.S. for one year or more within the last five years (or three years, if married to a U.S. citizen)
  • Be able to speak, read and write ordinary English
  • Be able to pass a U.S. history and government exam
  • Be a person of “good moral character” (this will be difficult to establish if you have failed to pay child support, taxes, or have been convicted of certain crimes, among other things)

Will Kohn Bankruptcy By-Pass Clinic

A special clinic to help low-income consumers stay out of bankruptcy.  At this clinic, volunteer attorneys will help individuals deal with creditors, and help notify creditors when people are “judgment proof,” meaning their income is protected by law from collection.

“Bankruptcy By-pass” is designed to keep people from having to pay creditors money that is protected by law and to avoid having to spend money on a needless bankruptcy.

Appointments are necessary — please call 888-817-3777.  Those attending should bring all relevant paperwork to the clinic.

This clinic will be staffed by volunteer attorneys.

This clinic is named in memory of attorney Will Kohn, who began the Bankruptcy By-Pass program at Legal Aid.

Legal Aid is proud to host this event in collaboration with the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association.

Join us for a special two-part event focused on “Sealing a Criminal Record.”

Join Legal Aid and its partner organizations for a free continuing legal education seminar focused on an “Overview of LGBT Rights in Ohio.”  Topics will include immigration, family law, estate concerns, employment law and name change issues.
