2018 National Consumer Protection Week

Legal Aid is participating in this special week-long campaign that encourages consumers nationwide to take full advantage of their consumer rights and make better-informed decisions.

In addition to Legal Aid, several local, state and federal agencies that offer consumer advice and assistance are participating in local events during National Consumer Protection Week  March 4th through March 10th, with a special consumer-focused legal clinic on March 10.

For this special week, Legal Aid is proud to partner with the Cleveland Consumer Action Network (CCAN) to provide free information and resources to the public in the Cleveland, Ohio. CCAN is a group of federal, state, and local agencies, community organizations, and advocates that focuses on important consumer issues and provides useful consumer resources and outreach opportunities.

Tuesday, March 6, 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

What: Scams that Target Seniors

Where: Village of Brooklyn Heights Community Center, 225 Tuxedo Avenue, Brooklyn Heights

Hosted by the Cuyahoga County Department of Consumer Affairs. From offers to help you fix your computer to frantic calls from someone claiming to be a grandchild, scammers are finding new ways to get your money. Join the Cuyahoga County Department of Consumer Affairs to learn about these and other scams that target older adults and what to do to avoid them.

Wednesday, March 7, 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM

What: Scams that Target Seniors

Where: City of Shaker Heights Community Center, 3450 Lee Road, Shaker Heights

Hosted by the Cuyahoga County Department of Consumer Affairs. From offers to help you fix your computer to frantic calls from someone claiming to be a grandchild, scammers are finding new ways to get your money. Join the Cuyahoga County Department of Consumer Affairs to learn about these and other scams that target older adults and what to do to avoid them.

Wednesday, March 7, 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM

What: Channel 3 Consumer Phone Bank

Where: Call the station during the nightly news for the Consumer Phone Bank

Hosted by Channel 3. Consumers can call to get answers to their consumer-related questions or referrals to useful resources. Tune in during the evening telecast to get the telephone numbers.

Where: Lakewood Public Library, 15425 Detroit Avenue, Lakewood

Hosted by the League of Women Voters. Panelists include the Cuyahoga County Department of Consumer Affairs, FTC, and BBB.

Saturday, March 10, 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM

What: Consumer Brief Advice Clinic

Where: Cleveland Public Library, Rice Branch, 11535 Shaker Blvd., Cleveland

Hosted by the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland and FTC. Attorneys will be available in-person to listen to consumer-related and other civil issues and will then offer brief advice or referrals to useful resources. Consumers will be seen on a first-come, first-serve basis. Attorneys cannot give advice on criminal issues.
