Legal Aid Society offers free legal advice in Cleveland, Chardon, Orwell

Cleveland.com reported today:

CLEVELAND, Ohio "” The Legal Aid Society and volunteer attorneys offer free legal advice to low-income residents between 5 and 7 p.m. today at the Chardon United Methodist Church, 515 North Street in Chardon.

Free advice is also being offered between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Wade Park Domiciliary, 1563 East Blvd., and 5 to 7 p.m. at El Barrio, 5209 Detroit Ave. in Cleveland.

And free legal advice is offered between 4 and 6 p.m. Thursday at County Neighbor, 39 South Maple St. in Orwell.

The attorneys can help with expungements, foreclosure and other housing problems, suspended driver"s licenses, contracts, divorce, child support, public assistance, special education, employment and immigration problems. They can"t help with criminal matters.

The National Pro Bono Celebration, sponsored by the American Bar Association, is this week. More than 1,600 of the attorneys practicing in Northeast Ohio volunteer for The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland, spokeswoman Melanie Shakarian said. "But we always need more volunteers."
