Legal Aid attorney Peter Iskin presented with the Denis J. Murphy Award.

At today's Legal Aid board meeting, representatives from the Ohio Legal Assistance Foundation (OLAF) were on-hand to present Legal Aid attorney Peter M. Iskin with the 2012 Denis J. Murphy Award.

The Denis Murphy Award was created in 1998 to honor OLAF's founding board president. The award is given each year and is intended to recognize outstanding leadership and advocacy within Ohio's legal aid societies.

Peter M. Iskin is a 1973 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Law. He is the Managing Attorney of the Housing Practice Group at The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland. He has served Cleveland Legal Aid in various capacities since 1973: a staff attorney in the Law Reform Unit from 1974 - 1987; Director of the Law Reform Unit from 1987 - 2004; and his present position since 2005.   He is the author of Ohio Eviction and Landlord-Tenant Law, now in its 4th edition.

He also served on the Board of  Commissioners  of the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority from 1980 - 1985, where he was chair from 1981 - 1985.

He has argued numerous landlord-tenant cases in appellate courts. He also has litigated numerous federal housing cases in federal and state courts. He is a frequent lecturer on landlord-tenant law and federal housing programs at seminars sponsored by legal services organizations, bar associations and judicial conferences.
